Joint Iran-European Union (EU) Workshop on Nuclear Safety

A joint Iran-EU workshop on nuclear safety focusing on the Joint Convention on the Safety of Spent Fuel Management and the Safety of Radioactive Waste, was held in Vienna with the presence of officials and experts from both sides.

Kazem Gharibabadi, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran, who delivered a statement at the opening of the seminar, stated: "Iran has adopted the highest standards in the field of nuclear safety and is always striving to meet the international standards, and to exchange experiences and best practices with countries in this field.

He added that Iran is reviewing the technical, legal and political aspects of international conventions related to nuclear safety and after completing the considerations, it will take the necessary actions in the framework of its legal procedures.

Stressing out that nuclear safety and security is an important area of ​​cooperation between Iran and the European Union, he stated: "Given the illegal, inhuman and unilateral sanctions of the United States, which also includes nuclear safety, the EU can play an effective and constructive role in this regard.
