Ambassador Gharib Abadi: Iran and UNIDO to extend cooperation

Kazem Gharib Abadi, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations and other International Organizations in Vienna, met with Li Yong, Director General of the UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), to review the latest status of relations between both sides.

Gharib Abadi referred to Iran’s scientific and industrial capacities, as well as the readiness for exchanging experiences in various development fields and highlighted some new areas of cooperation, such as clean technologies and water scarcity solutions and startups for expanding services and creating jobs. The Ambassador expressed hope that relations between Iran and UNIDO will continue to be strengthened.

The UNIDO Secretary General pointed out the high importance of Iran to the Organization and welcomed the development of relations between the two parties, mentioning that the UNIDO is ready to cooperate with Iran in various fields and propose new projects in accordance with the demands of Iran. In this meeting, both sides agreed that an UNIDO Delegation will visit Iran to assess its needs and examine ways to expedite the implementation of existing projects.

Ambassador Gharib Abadi also presented the letter of Iran’s Minister for Communication and Information Technology on establishing and developing bilateral and regional cooperation in start-ups and knowledge based companies.

UNIDO was created in 1966, is composed of 168 Member States today and has currently 7 ongoing cooperation projects in the Islamic Republic of Iran. The Organization acts independently with the aim of accelerating the industrialization of developing countries.
