Judge Seraj discussed mutual interested issues with UNODC Executive Director

Judge Nasser Seraji, President of the Iranian State General Inspection Organization, who is currently attending the 10th Annual Conference of the International Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities (IAACA) in Vienna, met with the Executive Director of the United Nations Office for Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Yury Fedotov.

Seraj explained about the activities and actions of Iran in fighting against corruption. Referring to the mutual cooperation and interaction between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the UNODC, such as Joint Anti-Corruption Seminars, he pointed out that the Iranian State General Inspection Organization, as the most important Institution in the field of fighting against corruption, is in constant seek of comprehensive and advanced struggle with all kinds of corruption. “Promotion of the rule of law and establishing transparent and accountable institutions are other pursued goals of this Organization,” he added.

The President of the State General Inspection Organization emphasized that dual citizenships have to be denied for those who stole public property and noted the necessity of asset recovery and their trial and punishment.

 Seraji criticized the lack of cooperation by International Organizations and countries by pointing to the drug problem and describing the actions of Iran in its effective struggle with this phenomenon causing huge human and financial costs, he demanded a serious attention of the Organization for the prevention of narcotic drugs and crime to strengthening resources and capacities in order to expand international cooperation.

Director Fedotov highlighted the collaboration between Iran and the UNODC and evaluated the mutual cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Iran on an appropriate level. “We are ready to expand our engagement.” He noted. Pointing out that Iran is an important Member to the UNODC, he added that Iran is ranked first in seizing narcotics among the countries of the world and it is the UNODC’s duty to support its activities in this area by developing agreements and attracting further resources.
