Ambassador Gharib Abadi elected as Vice President to the UNCND

At the reconvened 61st session of the United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs, CND, on 7 Dec 2018, in Vienna, Ambassador Gharib Abadi, Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations and other International Organizations in Vienna, has been elected as First Vice-President for the period of one year on behalf of the Asian Group Countries.
The CND, which consists of 53 Members, was established in 1964 and is today of the central drug policy-making body within the United Nations. The Commission is playing a decisive role in influencing narcotic drug control policy, by advising other bodies and determining the control of various psychotropic substances. In addition, the Commissions function is to prevent and respond to the challenges posed by drugs, crime, corruption and terrorism.
