Position on the appointment of the new Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)

Ambassador Gharib Abadi, Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations and other International Organizations in Vienna responded to some questions of reporters concerning the appointment of the new IAEA Director General. “The Islamic Republic of Iran has always emphasized on the importance of professionalism, impartiality and independency of the Agency, desiring their preservation under all circumstances, and calling upon the Member States to refrain from inserting undue pressurres on the Agency.”

Mentioning that Iran's policy and behavior has always been based on promoting and adhering to these key principles, Ambassador Gharib Abadi stated “continuation and preservation of these principles by the Agency, will receive Iran's positive and interactive approach. Given the Agency's responsibility to verify the JCPOA implementation, the new Director-General, like his predecessor, should play an important role in preservation of the nuclear agreement properly,” he stressed.
