Ambassador

H.E Dr. Kazem Gharibabadi is Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations Office to Vienna and Other International Organization since June 2018. He has a PHD in Public Law and is also a university lecturer.

Previously Mr Gharibabadi was Deputy Secretary General of High Council for Human Rights and President of National Committee for UPR of the State, and Head of JCPOA Committee in the National Supreme Security Council from 2014 to 2018.

He  served also as the Advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Deputy Director General for International Political Affairs in MFA from 2005 to 2009 and Ambassador to The Netherlands and Permanent Representative to The OPCW and International Legal Organisations in The Hague from 2009 to 2014.

He held several international positions between 2010-2014: Vice President and Member of the Bureau of the Executive Council of The OPCW, Vice-President of the OPCW Conference of the State Parties (four consecutive years), Member of the OPCW Host Country Committee (three consecutive years), Vice President and Member of the Bureau of the Third Review Conference of the CWC, Deputy President of the Working Group for the Preparation of the Third Review Conference of the CWC, President of the Non-Aligned Movement Bureau in The Hague, Member and Vice-President of the OPCW Confidentiality Commission (two consecutive years).

Ambassador Gharibabadi also holds other international positions since 2018 in Vienna: Vice-President of the IAEA General Conference, Third Vice-President of the CCPCJ, First Vice-President of the CND, Chair of the CND COW (March 2019), and Vice-President of the UNIDO IDB.

He participated in more than 120 international conferences, sessions and meetings as head, deputy head or member of Iranian delegations. Ambassador Gharibabadi also headed more than 30 delegations before Human Rights Council and bilateral human dialogues with different countries.

He authored ten books in Disarmament, Arms Control and Human Rights and published over 50 articles in various journals and media. He translated two books from English to Persian, participated in over 6 international conferences and seminars and presented lectures and papers.
