Meeting between Irans Deputy Foreign minister and the Executive Director of the UNODC

Dr. Dehghani, deputy foreign minister for International and Legal Affairs met Mr. Fedotov, Director of the UNODC. The meeting focused on a wide range of topics in order to advise on the expansion of bilateral relations and cooperation and in the areas of combating drug trafficking, human trafficking, crime and corruption.

Referring on the report of 2019 which will be published on 26 June 2019, Fedotov emphasized that once again the distinct role of the Islamic Republic of Iran in combating drugs has been reaffirmed.

Dr. Dehghani, while referring to the special geographic location of the Islamic Republic of Iran, being on the transit route of drug trafficking, pointed out the insignificance of international support. He noted that "the Islamic Republic of Iran is spending over 150 million Euros on combating drug trafficking. Conditions that are caused not only by the lack of cooperation of financially supporting countries, but also by the political pressures posed by the U.S. have a negative impact and diminish the potential and capacities of the Islamic Republic of Iran in fighting drug trafficking."

Fedotov emphasized the serious determination of the Office to provide financial and technical support to the activities of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the field of combating drug and crime, and noted his orders to relevant authorities to investigate and operationalize new methods of support for Iran.
