Dr. Kazem Gharib Abadi, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations and other International Organizations in Vienna, announced that several new technical cooperation projects between Iran and the Agency have been approved during last week's meeting of the IAEA Board of Governors.

“Due to the efforts made and technical negotiations between Iran and the Agency, in addition to two ongoing projects in the field of power plants and cancer treatment for the years 2020 and 2021, additional four projects on further technical cooperation have been approved for the period of 2020 and 2021. These projects, which will cost more than € 1m (funded by the Agency), will be implemented in various areas, including: operation of nuclear research reactors and related safety improvements, enhancing human resource capacity in the field of nuclear fuel, increase of production capacity in the field of basic cereals, as well as waste management.”

The Technical Cooperation Program, as one of the most important cooperation areas between the Agency and the Member States, especially developing countries, aims to promote and improve the status and standards in health and hygiene, nutrition and agriculture, safety and security, industry and further fields. The Agency’s Technical Cooperation Program covers 30 areas in total, where the areas of health, nutrition, agriculture, safety and security constitute the highest priority.
